First of all, let’s try to understand how to donwload and to install apps on the Apple TV. The procedure to follow is very simple and bears a really close resemblance to the one needed for iPhone and iPad: just log into the specific store, select the contents of interest, click on the download button and that’s it. The procedure to follow shall be identical for both the Apple Tvs currently on the market.
More specifically, all you need to do to install an app on your Apple TV is to open the App Store (the “A” icon” on a blue background, in home screen), click on the icon of the contents of your interest and then on the button “get it” (or on the button with the price, in case of a pay-app) in the screen that opens up. After the installation of an app, this one will appear in the main menu of the Apple TV and then you’ll be able to execute it by clicking on its icon.
The App Storie is divided into five sections, as following:
- Featured – Here you’ll find the most interesting apps and games of the moment.
- Top Charts – Here you’ll find the most downloaded/purchased apps from the users.
- Categories – Through this section you might flip through the apps following their related categories.
- Purchased – Here’s the list of all the purchased or downloaded apps.
- Search – Through this section you can search apps and games by name.
It should be noted that many apps already downloaded on iDevice, the free and the paid ones, shall appear automatically in the “purchased” section, if available for Apple Tv as well. In particular, as far as the paid apps, the purchase needs to be done just once in case this app is available for tvOS (the Apple TV operating system) and iOs, as this purchase goes for alle the devices in question.
As for the Apple TVs of generations prior to the ones above-mentioned, the App Store is unfortunately unavailable and accordingly, officially you can’t install any new apps but only use and manage the already installed ones.
